The Computing & Communications Department (http://www.computing.open.ac.uk) is inviting applications for full-time PhD Students. Research topics may be in any of the areas covered by the Department (see in particular http://mct-research.open.ac.uk/research/theme_computing). They include: software engineering and design; natural language engineering; security and privacy; interaction design; multimedia and mobile technologies; social computing; urban analytics; semantic web; ubiquitous computing; music computing; networks; educational technology and e-learning; online communication and social networking; social and historical aspects of technology and information; and technology management. Many of these projects will form part of the work of the Centre for Research in Computing (http://crc.open.ac.uk). Some of the studentships will be associated with research on the adaptive security and privacy research programme (http://www.asap-project.eu).

Studentships will be awarded based on academic excellence and potential for future achievement, as demonstrated by your application. In addition, you should consider how the research area you propose is aligned with the research interests of any of our academic staff. You are encouraged to informally contact individual staff to discuss your specific interests. Full-time PhD students will be allocated office space and computer facilities in the Department and receive funding for research expenses, training and conference participation.
